![]() The Japan Football Association was formed in 1921, and Japan joined FIFA in May 1929. Nevertheless, the game was promoted in Japanese schools in the 1920s. Although Japan made strong showings in swimming, baseball, and track and field, its football team suffered resounding defeats to the Republic of China and the Philippines.
